Richard Gibbs Henry Toovey RE (1861-1927):
Born in Brussels the son of the landscape painter Edwin Toovey, Richard studied at Birmingham School of Art and Paris. He was a successful landscape, coastal and figure painter and etcher until 1889 when tragically he suffered a nervous breakdown followed by partial blindness and never worked again. He lived in Leamington, Warwickshire and London and exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Painter-etchers and Engravers and Royal Society of British Artists.
